Can “Thinking” itself be a Hobby?
Why not? – if “Sleeping” or “Dreaming” can be a favourite leisure activity or hobby for some, so do “Thinking.”
I’d hereby like to share my hobby or favourite leisure activity – “Thinking.”
“Think And Grow Rich” – a revolutionary book by Napoleon Hill pinpointed our “thoughts” as per key and primary success tool. It was written almost 100 years back yet its profound richness and relevance today is worth mentioning.
Well, we are here not to focus directly on our “thoughts” rather on our “hobbies.” But, who can refute the fact that our hobbies and interests are highly connected with our thoughts or thought patterns. So, we would like to dig a little bit on the correlation factors pertaining to hobbies and thoughts.
When we utter the word “leisure”, it doesn’t penetrate much into the thought patterns concerning our deeper or serious issues of life. It is just a time put aside our daily chores to relax and do anything we feel like to relieve ourselves of our daily drudgery. We might take even a nap to do the same – I mean it is just a way of saying to our mind and our body, “Hi Buddy you need a break.”
On the other hand, “hobbies” are more than or greater than simple “leisure” – something which requires our body and mind to coordinate a lot. This is directly related our spheres or arenas of life – so, in broader terms we generally use the phrase “hobbies and interests” more intentionally instead of only “hobby” or “hobbies.”
“Hobbies” cater to our interests in our personal life and family or in our job and professional life and even our social and aesthetic pursuits.
Let us take the case of a guy who has done his studies in Engineering and in turn is working as a Tech Consultant in an IT (Information Technology) firm –
He might personaly like to do painting in his leisure which caters to his interest in his mental satisfaction.
He might even seem to have an interest in teaching students from backward classes or go for mountaineering and trekking – these cater to his social and aesthetic pursuits of leisure.
But, if he is interested in reading books (especially those of latest advancements in technologies) or building electronic devices as models – he is catering to self-development for professional needs while utilising quality time in his leisure.
Well, in all these cases aforesaid, we find an intentional attitude towards building something, constructing and giving a realistic and tangible output to his creative thoughts. And, this is just not leisure – it is not doing anything to escape work drudgery or professional pursuit. Nor, is it doing nothing and saving energy to do strenuous work later.
It generates a qualitative flow of creative thoughts and generate positive and impacting changes or transformation in someone, something or somewhere.
Indeed, I find myself here. I’ve done multifarious jobs in my career of more than 20 years – starting from Network Marketing and gradually touching International Client Servicing, Digital Marketing, Content Writing, HR Consultation, Social Enterprise and finally landed as a philanthropist in Church Administration.
Everywhere I went, “Thinking” catered greatly to my professional pursuits in addition to the social, Spiritual or aesthetic needs and qualitatively personalizing my family life.
I believe that by God’s Grace, I’ll continue to “Think and Grow Rich” in all spheres of my life and serve multitudes.
