An ode to Green Mother

Animitra Mallick

I try to murder you every hour every minute every second
And celebrate Mother's Day
I ram my harpoon into your heart
I poison you with different unholy gases
I bury truckload of bodies deep down your womb
And I never forget to celebrate Mother's Day
I tear you asunder a thousand sordid pieces
And try to imprison you in bleak sinister cells
Of Religion, Colour, Caste
And I never forget to celebrate Mother's Day
But I forget every now and then
It's this Mother who covers me
With a blanket of delicious breeze on a sultry evening
And set a pillow of moonlight on a restless night
I knock down trees, I burn down forests,
I attack pregnant whales without remorse
I try to cripple you with deadly viruses
And wipe out your children
Still I celebrate Mother's Day
And every time you give me another chance
And come smiling at me with a new tomorrow
Filled with cooing birds and lotus ponds
I never care to ask myself, " Do I deserve this?"
You watch in suicidal silence
How I, in my harrowing lust for power and wealth
Ravage you mercilessly and strip you naked
Yet, I never feel ashamed to celebrate Mother's Day...
